William, While Nitrox training will give you an introduction to gas management and a broader understanding of deco theory (depending on who you take the coursework from), there is no reason to do that first if cave training is your goal. However, experience is important, therefore diving is important however you do it. You should get more experience as a cavern diver. You should dive as much as possible and work on your bouyancy control and gas management. If part of that diving is nitrox training, fine. Don't rush. Once you start down the overhead road, take your time, do the dives and be deliberate in your approach to your diving and the training your receive. FJust like finding a good instructor is important, finding a responsible buddy with similar training and experience is a big plus, however you approach what training to take. Good luck! I envy you those first experiences in caves. Later, JoeL -- Send mail for the `techdiver' mailing list to `techdiver@aquanaut.com'.
