Subject: Introduction also an observation on Narcosis.
I subscribed to this list some time ago but did not introduce myself at
that time. I was originally certified PADI OW in '90, have about 300
dives logged mostly in local lakes and quarries and recently developed
an interest in the technical aspects of diving.

I think this experience would fit in with recent posts.

Over the past several months I, and some of my dive buddies, have had
the opportunity to do chamber dives. The first time the dive was to 100
ft on air. In the nice warm and dry chamber we noticed we were both
'buzzed' pretty good, and everybody else looked to be having a good time
too. My buddy and I subjectively decided it was same effect as the
140ish dives we had been doing in the lake the prior week. The second
chamber dive my buddy brought along his wife (a warm water/pretty fish
diver), this was her first chamber dive. Again it was to 100 ft. we
noticed about the same level of narcosis as before; however, my buddies
wife commented on her lips being numb and soon it spread to include her
chin. Near the end of the dive, using a tongue thickened with
insensitivity, she slurringly described it as like being 'numbed up by
the dentist'. She then started pinching and poking her face, like some
drunks do when they have had more than enough. Her symptoms cleared
upon ascent. My third trip to the chamber, I did not get in because of
waking that AM with a bad sinus condition, so I watched everyone on
video from the operations console, there were 8 or 9 adults having a
blast. It reminded me of when I'm the designated driver looking in on
the inebriated mind.

Seeing the effect at 100 ft., in a controlled environment, has caused
reevaluation of my diving practices and additional desire to add Helium
to my gas.
