A.APPLEYARD@fs*.mt*.um*.ac*.uk* asks: <And, more seriously, <is> there any de-facto difference between industrial and> <medical oxygen, except the price? I have heard more than once that both come> <from the same big storage tank at British Oxygen Ltd or wherever.> Here in Michigan, our local gas supplier tells me that medical and industrial oxygen all comes from the same big tank. However, I am not sure the bottles used to distribute the gas are treated the same. When returned for refilling, I don't think the industrial bottles are drained or their contents tested for purity, so there's a chance that fuel gas or other contaminants could have been introduced due to faulty equipment at the user's site. When you buy medical O2, you get pure O2; if you buy industrial o2, you _probably_ are getting clean O2, but do you want to take a chance on breathing even a small percentage of acetylene, propane, or who-knows-what other gas at elevated pressure? Take care Dan
