As an alternative...

I have a *very* thin piece of inner tubing around the canister and tuck the
excess cord into it, just like a stage regulator.  Obviously, this must be
done carefully so as not to stress the cable and with no tight turns.  The
advantage of this method is that I can de-kit in water and the cord will stay
neat.  We have the luxury of this on one of the boats we dive as the skipper
winches the kit aboard.

Yes. Tuck the light cord under your waist strap, after parking the head,
and before starting your ascent. This if in daytime, since the light isn't
needed for ascent. If you do need the light during ascent, do this on the
surface before approaching the ladder.
