In-Reply-To: <1DA1A035C3F@fs*.mt*.um*.ac*.uk*> The oxygen which goes into medical and industrial oxygen cylinders is, I believe, the same, it's just the care which which the filling is done which differs. Industrial oxygen cylinders are emptied, then filled up, with the contents of one of a batch then tested for "purity" (typically a minimum 99.5% oxygen). Medical oxygen cylinders have a non-return valve which stops anyone except the supplier putting any gas into it, by accident or design. Medical cylinders are "vacuumed" to remove all the previous fill, and each cylinder is tested for purity. Having said that, I have had rust dust come out of a medical oxygen cylinder (not BOC I might add), but no problems with "industrial" oxygen. David Wilkins [UK]
