FYI. I just received this note, second or third hand, regarding proposed legislation in Ontario, Canada. JS --------------------- Hi everyone, There is a Legislation being proposed in Ontario, that can limit and even possibly eliminate diving on many on the shipwrecks there. This bill means anyone diving in Ontario will require a license to dive on any shipwreck. There is no mention of cost but the thing that scares me is that Michigan legislature may get some bright ideas about doing the same thing here!! If you wish to read the proposed law it can be found at : http://www.ontla.on.ca/Documents/StatusofLegOUT/b013_e.htm Here are a couple of email addresses: the first is the MPP (Member of Provincial Parliament) who proposed this bill and the second is the Minister of the Environment for whom he works... barrett@no*.on*.ca* clement@ti*.tc*.ne* Many are drafting letters to these people with the contents covering some of the topics below: 1: Divers being left out of the process.. not even shop owners were contacted. 2: Interference where it's not needed -someone just trying to make a name for themselves -at our expense. 3: Undefined terms of reference within the act (read the part on silt!!) 4: Vague references to who and what will be allowed, and passing their own penalties as they see fit 5: And being state side I also added in Tourism. (heck if they make us buy many more permits and such why bother...) Anyway this is something I am really perusing since I do a lot of diving in Canada. I don't want someone telling me where, what, when, and how I can dive. So if nothing else Pass this along to someone who may have an interest, or who takes alot of students and friends into Canada to dive. This is very important to all of us as divers!!!!! -- Send mail for the `techdiver' mailing list to `techdiver@aquanaut.com'. Send subscribe/unsubscribe requests to `techdiver-request@aquanaut.com'.
