In my opinion: While certifying agencies, such as PADI, can recommend testing for PFO among dive candidates, it is not like- ly to become routine unless the American College of Cardiology, or a similar large medical agency, makes a specific recommendation. This was one small study, and more data is needed before specific recommendations can be made. Funny how some of these incomplete studies get a whole lot of media attention. Even if the ACC were to recommend that all divers get echocardiography (and there are several types), the cost of the procedure would probably limit its use. I can assure you that our HMO would frown upon this kind of testing as a type of routine screening. But then again, times may change, and we could all have this done. Michael J. Black, M.D. (I am not a cardiologist and don't have time for endless questions, sorry) __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Thousands of Stores. Millions of Products.
