Terence, I like this article: http://scubatimes.gulf.net/deep-tech/articles/maffatone_9.html ******************* DT: What about the world record penetration dives at great depths the WKPP divers have completed in Wakula Springs, 11,000 feet (3300m) in and all between 240 (72m) and 300 feet (90m) deep. TM: It=B9s not that I don=B9t respect their accomplishments, but the reason 90 percent of all dive records are made in caves is because you could not do the same in the open ocean. As far as I=B9m concerned a lot of divers have a misconception that cave diving is harder than wreck diving. Not so. The danger in cave diving is passive. You get lost or have a major equipment failure and you=B9re dead. In the North Atlantic the danger is active, it comes after you! You can do everything correct and still buy the farm. Multiple factors such as high currents, low visibility, freezing cold water= , high seas, strong surge, and dangerous marine life combine to create the most dangerous environment. DT: Do you think that cave training can make a better wreck diver? TM: No I don=B9t, you are trying to compare apples to oranges! There is absolutely nothing similar in the two endeavors =8B swimming is different, laying line and navigation are different, gear preparation and configuratio= n are different. The only benefit would be learning to control fear if you tend to be claustrophobic. ***************** I especially like the graphics . . . . So much for the Britannic expedition. <g> I wonder if he's still diving this rig?
