Me too, since I wouldn't stick a reg in MY mouth, seal the exhaust ports and hit the purge button. But Ms Karen suggested one hand operation couldn't be done. SO I grabbed a reg and tried it. Here's how. The reg mouthpiece is pointing vertically down, my left hand is palm down on top, covering the, er, cover. My thumb is wrapped around the exhaust ports. I squeeze my hand to increase pressure on the purge button and Pfffffftttttt! Gas out of the moutpiece with a small bleed through the far port past the tip of my thumb. This could be a good thing. I can actually get my index finger there though. The hardest part is typing one-handed while I'm doing it. but it blew the dust out of my keyboard. >As for covering exhaust T & purging (@ < than full >blast) - R U extending the neck & pinching the >nostrils as well, or just circulating that blast of O2 >out the nostrils. I wnat to know how to get the 100% 02 I and the victim are carrying into the victim's lungs ASAP without popping any alveoli. Now I can work the reg one-handed, I'm on to figuring out how to orient myself and stay in contact with the victim. I think I can figure how long to hit the purge for, (I tested it to see how long it takes to get a lungfull on me. I'd give it about 75% of that) SO I know how it should work with MY 02 reg. And I figure it's better to kick-start them with the reg if possible and then let them breath off it. I also want to know the physical aspects of the nasal cavity and the back of the trhoat - how do the nostrils work as a pressure-relief valve and do I need to partially occlude them? I have no argument with anyone except those who would say NO per se (the two paramedics), without reference to the mechanics of doing it. Who decides the protocols THEY are capable of administering? They don't. WHy should they decide for me? Understand though, I think the paramedics do a hell of a job at the very sharpest end, and do it superbly. I note that the copied extract from John Lippmann's comments indicates a problem area of lpm & overpressure injuries. If one sees them as challenges instead of prohibitions, then progress can be made. I just want some creative input, not a rote-learned no. U must appreci8 this more than most. >Plz explain wh/ fingers R doing what exactly as I >would like to try the technique 2 fingers of mi rite h& R typing & mi left h& is purging the reg PFFFFFFFFFFFFFT!!!!! oh there it goes again!
