If you are using a canister light or scooter now, you are using AGM batteries. Many people refer to them as Gel Cells but there is a difference between the two. As you stated, AGM batteries use a process where as the sulphuric acid is absorbed in a glass like material preventing it from leaking from the battery. On the other hand, Gel Cell batteries use a process where silica is added to the sulphuric acid causing it to jellify preventing it from leaking from the battery. Hence the name Gel Cell.
