A number of you have written to me direct about the Poseidon warning which I mentioned yesterday. I appreciate that to a large extent this warning has been written for legal reasons. However I know that some of the parts in these valves are still made of materials which will deteriorate quicker in high O2 environments. The "risk of explosion" is probably scaremongery, but I think that if one chooses to use any reg. straight from the box for 100% O2 then one is taking a risk. Perhaps what I should say is that if the valve is regularly serviced and monitored for signs of deterioration then there may be no increase in risk. However, I know a number of air divers who may be inclined to use their valves with high levels of O2 and those same divers are not the most vigilant with the condition of their kit. For this reason I believe one is "better safe than sorry". I personally O2 clean my valves for O2 grater than 40% but I like life! Hope this clears up what I may have wrongly suggested. I am not an expert on this subject and would welcome any corrections if I am talking crap! Cheers, Dr Ali Lawrie.
