Scuba student dies in Lake Travis

A man trying to earn his scuba diving certification apparently drowned
Sunday in more than 140 feet of water in Lake Travis,
just west of Windy Point. The man, whose name, age and hometown were not
released pending notification of his family, was
training with another student and an instructor about 3 p.m. when he
disappeared during an underwater lesson, said Curtis
Weeks, a spokesman for the Travis County Sheriff' s Office. Rescue divers
pinpointed the victim's location on the lake bottom,
but postponed the recovery effort Sunday night because of darkness and the
depth of the water, Weeks said. The incident
marked the first diving fatality this year in the Windy Point area, a
popular location for scuba diving.
