Are NE Wrecks divers rejecting DIR after trying it? To many it looks quite
different from traditional styles of gear and configuration. I wouldn't
expect others to adopt it just by seeing it, unless they have guidance and
ask questions.

I have moved away from the Great Lakes region, but I keep in touch with many
of my friends there, and make a point to dive there at least once a year now
that I've moved. I've shown DIR to a few friends who are doing recreational
diving. Some have adopted it because they were ready for new equipment, saw
the value in what I was showing them, and trusted my judgment.

Those have become additional local examples of DIR. I'm sure I will
influence a great many more over time to switch their configuration. Quite a
few of my friends there have not heard of DIR, or this type of equipment,
until I have brought it to their attention. Thery are currently using gear
that has worked for them so far, and until they learn about something new,
and have a chance to try it, they have no awareness of a need to change.

Interesting how you answer your own question, accurately I might add, while
at the same time suggesting that these could not possibly be the right
answers. Habit is a powerful force in human experience. Ask any junk food
 eater.

But perhaps there is another explanation. Maybe once someone is both
properly trained and properly configured they are too terrified to dive off
a
Jersey dive boat and move away.

 Safe diving,
