Ponies are not a new thing but a different version of an old thing. In French aqualungs for a long time (remember the old days when aqualungs had two thick breathing tubes and the reg was on the cylinder top?) the air stopped flowing at about 50 ats and you had to pull a "reserve rod" to let the rest out. There used to be specific diver signals for "I am on reserve" and "I can't pull my reserve rod". And the reserve rod didn't cause a lot of extra drag and rotation-inertia like a pony does. For that my matter, my motorcycle has the same. Its petrol tank has two bottoms, and when it first stops flowing, there is some left in the other bottom of the tank, and turning the fuel tap the other way lets it out. -- Send mail for the `techdiver' mailing list to `techdiver@aquanaut.com'.
