Regards, *************************************************************************** PRODUCTION WRAPS ON UPN'S HI-TECH ACTION-ADVENTURE MOVIE, "AVALON: BEYOND THE ABYSS" Production has wrapped in Catalina and Los Angeles on "Avalon: Beyond The Abyss," a state-of-the-art action-adventure movie from executive producer/star Parker Stevenson and executive producers Gregory J. Bonann and David W. Hagar (of the "Baywatch" series). The film, produced in association with Viacom Productions, also stars Mehgan Heaney-Grier (United States Record holder for "breath hold" free diving), Krista Allen ("Days Of Our Lives"), Lewis Smith ("Wyatt Earp"), Shelli Lether ("Baywatch Nights") and Billy Rieck ("NYPD Blue"). "Avalon: Beyond The Abyss" will air FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 5 (8:00-10:00 p.m., ET/PT) as a presentation of UPN's "Blockbuster Video's Shockwave Cinema." In the movie, John Alden (Stevenson) is the dynamic, strong-willed leader of The Abyss, a world-class oceanographic research institute. When a seemingly idyllic island in the Gulf of Mexico mysteriously implodes, deadly bacteria spreads from the bottom of the sea and threatens the world's oceans. Alden, his elite team of brilliant scientists and daring adventurers and their ultra-modern equipment are called in and, as they attempt to avert a worldwide ecological disaster, make a remarkable extraterrestrial discovery on the ocean floor. Adding enormous scope to the production is the unprecedented-for-television production assistance provided by the United States Navy and its Deep Submergence Unit, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and the United States Coast Guard. Among the half-billion dollars worth of hi-tech, world class equipment used in "Avalon" is the Navy's ship, the Kellie Chouest, its Deep Submergence Rescue Vehicle (the most sophisticated submersible in the world) and its Scorpio detached unmanned vehicle (which explores to the depth of 5,000 feet). Also prominent is the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration research vessel McArthur and extensive aerial support from the US Coast Guard. Other elements unique to "Avalon: Beyond The Abyss" include the use of high definition video - in a television first - for its extensive underwater sequences and the creation of the last 15 minutes of the film wholly by computer graphics imagery (CGI) for its action-packed finale. The film is executive produced by Parker Stevenson, Gregory J. Bonann and David W. Hagar. Cathy Dwyer serves as producer. "Avalon" was produced by Waterworks BHS, LLC in association with Viacom Productions Inc. Viacom Productions is a division of the Paramount Television Group, which is part of the entertainment operations of Viacom Inc. -- Send mail for the `techdiver' mailing list to `techdiver@aquanaut.com'.
