Since I'm no cave diver I may underestimate the problems of getting a long, thick rope into a cave but for a permanent line it would seem like the obvious choice. Anything permanent I'd put on a wreck would be very different from a standard wreck line on a reel. It's stronger, easier to hold on to and not as prone to twisting and snagging. Why aren't "real hawsers" used for permanent lines in caves, properly tightened and well secured? If it's impractical that's a valid reason.
