Try Gagnon for the Aqualung, Cousteu as an unscrupulous PT Barnum type who helped bring the ocean to the public, Ian Flemming for the same thing with James Bond and Thunderball ( creation of an adventure mystique in diving) , Lloyd Bridges took this further still; Who ever was responsible for the original NAUI course structure; the Original Skindiver Magazine back in the 60s; All these people helped create an infra-structure and the allure of a new sport. PADI, TDI and IANTD would help to degrade the quality of dive training, in their mad rush to increase public participation in the sport and their own incomes ), as each one gained its foothold. George Irvine was the first to reverse this trend, and take diving back to the more intelligent direction NAUI originally started with, and then he took it ( DIR ) FAR beyond anything NAUI could ever imagine. I got this reply from George and would have answered people like Cousteau, Buhlmann, and even that guy 4000 years ago who thought up tying a bunch of rocks to a slave and giving him a big sack of air before throwing him in the Nile to clean the bottom of barges contributed more to diving. But George obviously doesn't like my opinions so I'd thought I'd throw it open for discussion. So who do you consider to be the greatest contributors to diving? And note he did ask for diving, not just tech or cave. The three I listed are the quick off the top of my head, so I'd like to find out who the rest of you think rates. >From: kirvine@sa*.ne* >Date: Sat, 09 Oct 1999 18:08:01 -0400 >Reply-To: kirvine@sa*.ne* >To: Travis Pawliuk <oroborus@th*.co*> >Subject: Re: INTD "normoxic" and other trimixes > >Jerkoff - do you want to compare my track record and contribution to >diving to anyone else's?
