I know that this is an old thread, but I have been out of touch for a while. I am a competitive, amateur cyclist and until recently, I was only doing mixed gas ocean diving which involved relatively infrequent trips to the coast (500+ km's away). After these trips, I always noticed that cycling performance was, much to the delight of my training partners, pathetic for at least several days after returning home. It never occurred to me that this was as a result of damage done to my body during the dives. Now that I am doing some cave diving, I will be diving much more frequently and the thought of not being able to inflict pain on the other riders in the bunch is too much to bear. From reading the previous posts, I understand that it seems to be well accepted that diving with the wrong gasses will severely decrease athletic performance for a few days, post dive. George recommends at 30/34 mix for 40m dives + correct deco gasses and techniques. Are there guidelines that I can use to determine what mixes to use on deeper dives, say 50-70m in order to enable me to be up and racing the next day ? Would helium added to my deeper deco gas help ?
