Craig,

Under the NAUI training programs the progression is simple

Enriched air program as base (you can do this right out of open water
NAUI Master Diver or equivalent
Technical Enriched Air - you must have 50 dives -- ten on nitrox
Decompression Techniques -- you must have 100 dives -- and previous 2
courses (max 130 fsw
Trimix Level I you must have 250 dives of which 75 have been to 130 fsw.

Trimix Level I is an 18 hour academic program plus 6 open water dives to a
maximum depth of 225 fsw, however depth is secondary to proficiency of
skills. Two dives must be deeper than 190 fsw. If you are good and meet all
the requirements you earn the rating . Then you go out and learn how to dive.

When i teach the program it is a week long program. There is required
equipment that you must own. (tanks can be rented) Achievement of the
rating may not occur on that training week. Its not just dives, its also
attitude, team relations, academic proficiency.

An active diver can go from OW - Trimix in about 2.5 years. Just make sure
you have a reason to be diving deep. If not enriched air diving is more
than sufficient, for dives to a depth of 130 fsw.
