Subject: Free deco software for palmtops (maybe)
Date: Wed, 29 Sep 1999 22:41:54 +0100
Sorry for being so leading with the title, this is really aimed at any
divers who know about computer programming.

For any divers out there who know about programming Psions, Palmpilots, or
Win-CE based palmtops, I have some code based on Buhlmann ZHL16 for
planning dives. This IS NOT a finished program but the source code (i.e. a
text file which contains the actual instructions which go to make up the
program) which I wrote ages ago before starting work on my Win-95 program.
I am not a programmer but I can bluff my way enough to put together a
half-decent (or should that be half-baked) deco program, and I know when to
quit.

It is written in C, it makes no use of Windows specific procedures, it is
platform independant (but I don't know for sure) and is text based. If
anyone wants to have a go at compiling it for a little computer then e-mail
me privately and I'll send you the code. It is a VERY simple program, no
fancy fudge factors (more or less straight Buhlmann) and very small, but if
anyone is interested I might put some more work into it. Ideally I want to
pass it on to someone else to do, I've had a year and a half of it. Anyone
who gets it can feel free to do whatever work they like to it -- only
condition is that you make it available to evryone who asks (i.e. don't try
selling it). Palmtop deco software seems like the Holy Grail of tech diving
and anyone who makes it work will make a lot of people happy.

Similarly, anyone who knows their way around a C program might find it
interesting to see how Buhlmann works.

Alternatively, you can download its big PC-based brother at:

http://www.lizardland.freeserve.co.uk/download.html

If I get time I'll put the source code on the site too.

Regards,

Stuart
