Cam, you need to be using large boltsnaps, the ones which will clip onto a 5/8" rope. Also you take your Dring and put it in a vise and bang it with a hammer to give it a slight bend. Position the ring so the bend holds the end of the ring away from the webbing and allows one-handed operation. Don't use butterfly clips, they are as bad as suicide clips, not only do they snag mono they also snag fish trap cord very nicely. I found this one out the hard way.
