Subject: DIR gear questions

From my understanding, DIR advocates use of bolt snaps and non-fixed
D-rings.  I find these very hard to manipulate in 5mm gloves.  I'm about
to rebel against these and go to butterfly snaps and fixed D-rings.  

Can anyone save me?  I know that butterfly clips can snag monofilament,
but I'll trade that hazard for actually being able to use them.  Also,
are D-rings hoseclamped to the tank non-DIR, or permissible?
