It was a loss less dangerous for me Ive dived with lenses for about six months, and only at a recreational level. The difference was amazing, my instructor also dives with lenses and neither of us have suffered any problems. The optician did advise me that more 'crap' may be held against the eye if you get them wet, so I do try and take them out straight after a dive to be on the safe side. The one things I do make sure of, is that I can work out what my guages are telling me, so if a mask comes loose and I do lose a lense then I can safely abort the dive. This hasnt happened yet, although mask clears are done with my eyes closed. Have never tried lenses in a mask so you may need to speak to someone that has done both for the real pros and cons. One that springs to mind is clear vision in whichever direction you look.
