John, >I heard the other day that its a good job you hang all off the left side >as it allowed you to wave for help to the cover boat off Weymouth with >your right hand. Actually, hanging everything on the left still leaves your left hand free. Thankfully, I've never had to signal for help so sorry to ruin your broadside. If I did have a problem, I'd turn to the team I'm diving with. You see another distinction between us DIR types and the rest of you guys is that we dive as a team. We continually practice team rescue skills such as gas loss (backgas and deco gas), scooter breakdowns and other incidents. Thankfully, we've never had to rely on these skills in a real situation. I imagine this team concept is a bit alien to you - it doesn't mean that we do a dive in close proximity to each other. It doesn't mean we got paired up on the boat an hour before the dive or any of the other stuff you guys do. It means continual awareness of your team members and your surroundings and responding to things before they become a problem. Best, John. PS - Keep up the bluff and banter as you know you cannot defend anything of what you guys do. This at least gives us a good laugh. -- Send mail for the `techdiver' mailing list to `techdiver@aquanaut.com'. Send subscribe/unsubscribe requests to `techdiver-request@aquanaut.com'.
