Subject: To convolute and ruin a great system or to DIR was Re: To FT or not to FT
The difference between a loop at the top of the bottle or at the bottom
of the cord is due to whether or not the valve is a Sherwood DIN or
other valve - the tie at the top ( most of my bottles ) is due to the
loop with the clip tied in NOT fitting over the Sherwood valve, my other
bottles have it either way. The top tie also allows fine tuning of the
position of the upper clip. This is not an issue by itself since the
correct answer is to properly position the clip.

Where it could be an issue is if you travel with your rigs but not your
stages - then you should use my upper tie method so your rigs work with
ANY local bottles.

This was the genesis of that - I go to Mexico a lot.

On the "ft" bullshit, there is no confusing meters with feet for the
standard correct deco depths and gases, so that is patently ansurd, and
we do not mark the mix on the bottles - also patently absurb and a
violation of the whole system to start with. Why not just call Tom Mouth
and plaster the bottles with IANTD stickers if you are going to do that?

You can not get around the logic of the system, and when you start
adding other things, you are asking for confusion, trouble and mutations
that will end up killing somebody. Try this : put a rubber innertube reg
holder over a 20 ft bottle with "ft" or feet on it and read it backwards
- could it be 120 or 20? How much crap do you want on your bottles - I
want the depth and my name - nothing else.

Leave the system alone - I know what I am doing , been doing it a long
time with a lot of divers and nobody has breathed the wrong gas yet. It
is impossible with our system if it is followed ( unaltered) from start
to finish. Jim, get a copy of the DIR II tape and look at it - every bit
of this is explained in detail. Show that to the "vbstroke" list and end
the arguement that way.
