>Dear Fellow Divers, > >With the current state of gas availability using non-narcotic breathing >mixes is not necessary to conduct dives deep with air. I might just like to point out that it is fine to pontificate about deep air from the land of plenty where helium flows from the earth, but in many places helium is seriously expensive and only used when necessary. E.G. to fill my doubles with 40% costs $130 - plus deco gas - plus boat fees. That is one expensive morning's outing. Around here even the most devout DIR divers are unlikely to use helium under 50m. So as far as I can see the agency 57m or 1.4pp02 limit is not unreasonable from a global perspective. If we could get people to keep deep air to 57m as the agencies recommend, then most of the stupidity would be eliminated. I know there are those of you who will say do it right or don't do it at all - but that is ok for you. You don't have to make the choice.
