I feel it is perhaps OK for the line signals etc as a dire emergency method for
monitoring/controlling the treatment. However assuming that the use of IWR is
only applicable in remote sites with poor medivac is it not feasable to ensure
that FFM with comms is available?. I Know people are going to cite cost etc,
but

I feel the 'if you arenot going to do it right - don't do it' situation applies
here. ALL dive plans should incorporate a 'what if' - if this involves a DCI
hit

@ a remote site then surely FFM etc must be available.

Doing it "right" means having an onsite multilock chamber. Sounds like
overkill rather than doing it right, but when I go to work I *expect*
it to be there, and if it isn't, I don't work. Cost; around 60 000
to set up and 5-10 000/day to run (you need a fair size vessel to carry
a chamber, compressor [huge] and storage bank)

That's just for air diving to 50m (165fsw). Gas diving is different.
(I assume we are talking about gas here, being techdiver!).

Doing it "right" means a bell and sat system. Expect to pay a
million dollars and up, plus running costs of 250 000/day and up.
(You need a dp equiped *ship*, with a *moon pool*!! = big$)

I think everyone needs to set some sort of reasonable balance between
risk minimisation and cost. The current situation is that people are
having *nothing* in the way of backup for their sport diving acitvity.
Line signals are clearly not the best option, but it could be argued
that something is better than nothing!

Oh and on the point that IWR is "only applicable in remote sites", to a
very real degree, any dive more than 7 minutes away from a chamber is
a remote dive site.

I didn't mean to get involved with this line signals discussion,
I was hoping to let it develop with out me bulldozing my silly views
into it. Oh well.

Cheers Jason :)
