Well, here it comes. When it comes to the real thought process the real Farm animal Stupidity surfaces. More than 90% of all deaths are recorded as Cardio/Pulmonary Failure. Translation= The heart stops and the breathing stops. Since this is the usual definition of death for the LAY public, this is what goes on most death certificates. In cases where foul play is not suspected little or no search is made beyond that. ( To look further would take tens of thousands of dollars and several months of work) Unless there is something obvious like water in the lungs and excessive number of lead projectiles in various parts of the body. It will be reported as Cardio/Pulmonary arrest (i.e. heart attack) The most recent death on a rebreather was operator error (Kind of like John Kennedy) He dove with an electronic closed circuit rebreather and he did not turn it on. DAHHH I am sure this is not a recommended procedure by anyone. The end result was no O2>>>>hypoxia>>>>>cardio/pulmonary arrest>>>>>death. Cause of death CPA or operator error. Stupid mistakes get divers killed especially the more advanced the dive and the equipment. GROW UP and get used to the fact that unless there is water in the lungs the cause of death is going to be CPA or in LAY terms a heart attack. This list is not going to change several hundred years of medical tradition, it is just not going to happen. Mistakes are going to happen they are not planned, but they occur sometimes the result is worse than others. Our goal is to limit the variables that lead up to an error or mistake, and make them less frequent. However to think they will stop altogether is Naive. Lets learn from our mistakes and teach it to others. -- Send mail for the `techdiver' mailing list to `techdiver@aquanaut.com'.
