Subject: Re: Jet fins with DUI drysuit
Nick, the reason for the fin rec is as follows: the Scuba Pro jet Extra
Large ( and it must be the extra large, not the large) has a bigger
blade than the rest, and the biggest foot pocket. If that won't fit, I
would ask DUI to change the boots. JJ is an 11 or 12 foot, BTW.

The problem is that when you change fins, you lose the other advantages
of the jet. It is heavy, so holds the feet down well against the dry
suit with no effort, allowing you to add gas to the feet for different
trim needs. The fin is a hard rubber that resists breaking or tearing,
and seems to last indefinitely, and does not change its pliabilty like
plastic does. It is compact enough and well enough controled as to allow
all types of kicks in confined as well as open areas without stirring
the silt. It provides enough thrust to pick up 45 pounds of weight and
swim up with it. You can swim for hours in these fins without chaffing.

Of course , any other fin that does this would be fine, but I do not
know of any. BTW, this fin was first made in a full foot version by
Beuchat, and licensed to all of the others, like US Divers. There must
have ben ten versions of it. It seems that only Scuba Pro had the Extra
Large as a totally different fin, and are still the only ones that have
this part figured out. When diving the big gear, you need the big jet.

I would do whatever it takes to make this fin work , if it were me. For
my own account, I have different set of jets with different length
spring straps for dry and wet. They really need only to cover the last
few inches of your feet to work properly.
