Guy, Not only does it interfere with the long hose and the cannister, also you will have a different drag when swimming. Stages tend to move back and forth (rocking) during swimming and would you use bilateral stages this causes a 'spread wing' effect. More drag... With all stages on one side you are balnced fine, never gave me a problem ever. Using three stages on the left still creates no problems in balance.
