Had a nice dive last Saturday. Dave Widen and I did support for JT Barker and Rick Atkins on the WW1 German Battleship, Ostfrisland. The Ostfrisland is part of the "Billy Mitchell" fleet, an early and prescient demonstration of air power against surface ships. We went out on the Deep Explorer and sweltered in the 100F heat and 95% humidity for the 7 hours it took to get out there. The "O" is at 375' and it took 4 throws of the hook to snag her. Dave escorted the bottom team down to 200' and I met them at 200' and escorted them up and watched as they did their gas switches and deco. I am sure that JT will give a more detailed description of his experiences down there, but they did manage to bring up a beautiful large brass porthole, which as far as I know is the first artifact to come up from the "O". Dave and I then dove the Ocean Venture where there were several large lazy tautaug and a couple of small lobsters. Surface temp on both dives was 85F and bottom was 55 on the OV. It was fun being part of this expedition and exciting to see a cool artifact from such a historical wreck.
