I've just completed a Basic IANTD(UK) Nitrox course and there is a little part of it that is now sort of confusing me. I'm BS-AC trained, and an well-used to using the BS-AC'88 tables. We used Buhlmanns tables for the course. No real problems there, they are easy to use and understand, but I've always been led to believe that doing a stop at 6m was better than a stop at 3m for various reasons. The BS-AC'88 tables have stops at 9m and 6m only. The no-stop table in Buhlmanns tables include a safety stop at 6m for 1 minute, and in the writing that goes with them, it mentions that there is a better off gassing gradient at 6m. Why then, in the main table (Table 1a) does Buhlmann have stops at 3m? I havn't done too much decompresion diving, and most of it has been done on my Monitor 2 computer, and then I've always performed the 3m indicated stop at 6m. I really don't like the idea of hanging 3m below the surface with a metre swell above me! (And hands up, all those who have heard their Monitor2/Aladin Pro beep at them with a fast ascent warning when holding on to a rock on the bottom in rough seas!) Am I correct in saying that the BS-AC'88 tables are the only ones without a 3m stop? Gordon -- Gordon Henderson is gordon@me*.co*.uk* O Meiko Scientific Ltd. (My usual diving range is 2 hours drive from Bristol, about Swanage to Plymouth, Stoney Cove). -- Send mail for the `techdiver' mailing list to `techdiver@santec.boston.ma.us'.
