Bill, I'm not sure why but when you 1st turn the light on you have to leave the tube off while it anitially heats up or else it will blow the tube off. Although the the light doesn't seem to be real hot once the tube is on. The guys normally turn the lights on at their vehicle and leave it on until the end or the dive. I believe once you have heated it up, if it where to shut off breifly you can turn it right back on. The big problem with these appears to be tempereraly blinding you dive team if you should accidently shine it in their eyes.
