A diver I know posted this on a British tech forum about a rescue he was involved in: "Last Sunday 18/7/99 I was involved in yet another rescue at Dorothea, this time 2 PADI divers ran out of air with 25 minutes of deco remaining, they had done a 71m yes 71m dive both on singles with one pony between them. When they came out of the water they refused to go to a chamber even though the chopper had been called out, I warned them that the chances of them making it home without suffering a bend was about nil, but they still wouldnt go(I found out that they spent 4 1/2 hours in the pot after suffering a shoulder bend). When are these dickheads going to learn, they do 2 or 3 deep dives and they think there Sheck Exley. If there are any wanabee technical divers out there please get proper training(not just a PADI deep diver badge)get some experiance and most importantley get a brain." Dorothea is an abandoned slate quarry in the mountains of North Wales, it is very accessible and has excellent conditions year round. It is also extremely deep for a quarry (100m+), vertical sides, and loads of mines and tunnels underwater. It got closed for months and was only recently reopened because of this kind of stupidity. Put an end to this crap before the legitimate divers get kicked out again because of it. -- Send mail for the `techdiver' mailing list to `techdiver@aquanaut.com'.
