Hugo the Red Sea Clown might be good for a laugh but
as an instroketor he is a seriously dangerous piece
of shit. In case anyone has any doubts as to how
dangerous, read on.

Billy,

Not to take sides here, but in the real world, cases like Hugo's are th=
e norm, not the exception, I fear. They dive in a seemingly haphazard wa=
y and survive by pure chance and guts. The edge better dive equipment an=
d another mentality would give them, is wasted on them.

Let's hope the arrival of GUE can give us a new breed of instructors. P=
eople who first look at safety and their client , not the quick dollar =
to be earned or lost. Instructors should realize this.

Especially in regions were competition is tough, like Egypt, this tends=
to be forgotten from time to time. Hugo will have to adapt or he will b=
e bypassed for others who evolve and try to make diving safer, even if t=
hat means to say 'No' to people who want to go to depths of 50-60 metres=
on air. Nowadays, if Hugo says 'No, I'm sorry but I will only go to 40 =
metres on air', he gets laughed at and people go to the next dive-centre=
.. Thats the reality and its a bitter one.

Especially with the trend to go for those deeper, longer, 'techier' div=
es, it is important that the quality of instruction is brought up to a h=
igher level and responsabilities are being taken, not ONLY by the instru=
ctors but ALSO by the divers who force the instructors into doing things=
they probabaly shouldn't. Its called peer pressure I believe .

As responsible divers we can help here by choosing an instructor or a d=
ivecentre which is reliable and has a good safety record. Also, when you=
are committed to diving DIR, choose only DIR centres or don't dive or s=
tick with shallower rec diving. After all, it's ultimately your butt tha=
ts on the line. We still have a long way to go I'm afraid...

Thats why I was asking about the list of DIR- minded dive centres a whi=
le back (btw, the list is being finished and should be available here so=
on - dixit Richard Hollingsworth - thanks Richard)

Just my opinion here, but what do other people feel about this?
