Thanks to everyone who replied. The reason I asked was that I have been working on a commercial dive planning package which for legal liability reasons I have decided not yet to sell to the diving public -- if someone gets bent and has been on my tables who will they blame? Instead, I thought about making the program available free of charge like ZPlan but I wasn't sure if it was worth the hassle -- I wanted to know if people were actually passing up Abyss, Proplanner, etc. for some freeware off the web. It looks like they are, so I am going to go ahead and distribute it free (for evaluation purposes only). You can see my program at http://www.lizardland.freeserve.co.uk but for availability contact me direct. My program runs on WIN 95, 98 or NT4. It is a Buehlmann based algorithm, but seems a little more conservative than other programs when run with the same safety settings. It does Pyle deep stops, plus it has an alternative method (suggested by a team of German cave divers, credit to Juergen Bohnert) for deep stops which I have been using, but isn't well tested. Other features: * altitude settings (limited testing) * ideal gas suggestions based on ppO2 and narcosis limits * multi-level diving * calculates no-deco limits, even on multi-level dives * cold & exertion modifiers * CC rebreather diving (untested!!!) * O2 exposure tracking * dive plan can be saved, loaded, edited and printed * user definable last stop depth from 3m to 9m (without affecting the depths of previous stops as Zplan does) * fresh/salt water setting * optimised algorithm for gas mixes with high helium contents or heliox * rough seas setting -- redistributes the stop times at 3m & 6m to allow the 3m stop to be done anywhere from 4m-2m -- not everyone has perfect buoyancy control!!! One drawback -- it is only available (and will ever only be available) in metric. WARNING: for legal reasons I have to say that this program is for demonstration and evaluation purposes only. It should not be used for planning actual dives or used in a situation where anyone's life is endangered by its use. It will only be supplied on the understanding that the user does not use it for actual diving underwater, or any hyperbaric application, or its figures it produces be used in any such way. It may contain errors and may produce results which are erroneous and/or false -- use of these figures may kill you. Diving should be done using established dive planning methods -- this program is purely for comparison, evaluation and to give the user a chance to comment on the product. Obviously, once you have it I have no control over what you do with it but it is supllied on the understanding that you stick to the limits above. Availabilty is by snail mail -- send me three blank disks and a stamped, self-addressed envelope and I will supply the software. For the first couple of weeks UK enquiries only please! When I have looked into supplying it outside the UK I will post again (hopefully by the end of the month). In the meantime if you have any questions please e-mail me directly.
