Mike

Apeks regulators are superb and very reasonable in price (in the UK).

I use the US4 which is the same as the DS4 but unsealed. The Tech-50D first
stage has an O-ring on the swivel and the over size port, as you state, which
is why I did not go for these regulators. However, many people use the
Tech-50D which is a fine set up. For the second stage I use the TX40 as they
have no breathing resistance knob - eliminating another point of
unreliability - on the adjuster O-ring. The US4 and TX40 arrangement is
very much cheaper than the Tech-50D setup, though I went for this due for
simplicity and reliability. The US4 is a standard Apeks product, but may not
be available from one of the companies that badge them.

I have 6 Apeks regulators and only one failure: a blown diaphragm. They are
still performing well but probably due for a service after 2 years of use.

I believe this is their new first stage of which I have no experience but the
shape of the first stage is not as neat as the US4, etc. Note that there was
a review in Diver Magazine of this setup but the product supplied has a
design fault in it which has reportedly been corrected.

Yes, I use the same regulators for all functions, thereby allowing
inter-changeability.

I've used converters for DIN to Yoke for recreational stuff without any
issues.
