H Mike,

We do use the unit for deco. It has 2 gas inlets - 1 is connected to =
backgas and the other is free for stage/deco bottles. We do all our =
deco on the unit, but we have to have the capability to go to OC if =
necessary to complete the deco - that's why we use the larger bottles =
(our deco regs have 1 SPG, 1 second stage and 1 hose feeding the RB). =
Ideally, we would rather use smaller bottles but we don't have the range =
available in the states - so we're somewhat limited in choice.

If you're doing a dive requiring 50% and 100% for deco, then using a =
single stage for backgas means 3 bottles - not a problem really, but =
consider the scenario I described yesterday. I would need the following =
on that reg - 1 long hose, 1 backup hose, 1 wing inflate, 1 drysuit =
inflate, 1 SPG, 1 hose to reg on mouthpiece block - that's a complete =
nightmare to route effeciently and under some conditions it may not have =
enough gas to safely get 2 divers on OC out of the water. Going with =
twin mounted bottles on the back is an easy solution to this. It also =
means minimal change in our gear and configuration from OC to RB. =
Sometimes the simplest way - 1 stage for backgas is not always the best.

Best,
John.
See, this makes better sense, only if the unit saves you gas on the =
bottomgas, why don't you use the unit for deco (with 50 and 100 for =
deeper dives) I know that the unit gives you better advantages the =
deeper you go (on gas consumption) but I would think that you would the =
unit for deco as well?

Why is it standard procedures to carry the twinset on the side of =
the unit? As G3 has stated so many times (and I agrees with him) =
carrying stages is not a problem, so why not just have another stage =
with the bottomgas
