Hugo - that's marginally cheaper than we pay in the UK (we pay about $0.75 a
litre). However, that does not stop us doing it right. We also use bigger
sets of doubles (twin 12L cylinders typically) AND we go high on the
helium - our MAX END is 30m but we typically run a shallower one. Sure it
works out expensive, but we take our safety seriously - that's just the
price we pay.

Doubles are no more difficult to transport than 2 singles and are not more
difficult to fill - they take as long as 2 singles. Assuming that you're
doing a second dive a lot shallower than the first, then get a single tank
adaptor and dive your backplate with your 15L H valve tank.

So does what Billy has suggested. When I go away diving and know that mix
will not be available, I do what Billy suggested - I use stage bottles with
mix and use the backgas for emergencies or the last dive. It's always
worked well for me and I can't honestly see why it won't work for you. It
appears that you seem to think carrying tanks is too much hassle and would
rather not do so.

Best,
John.
