No, it isn't. This is like saying "the fight is for the right to redesign the '68 Corvette". This model Corvette has already been designed, it is a classic, there is no going back to "evolve" it. While it is entirely within your rights to purchase one, install mud flaps, a bolt on GTO spoiler, hang dingo-balls from the windows, all you are doing is adding your personal touches to it, not improving it. Anybody on this list can come up with their own system. And if they have the wherewithall to promote it, explain the logic of it, and then test it through hundreds of extreme dives, produce tapes about it and set up a training agency to train it, well then they have the right to call it "Langborgian" or "Doing it My Way" or whatever. As far as I am concerned DIR is a entity created by the WKPP boys, it is theirs and they have the right to do whatever they want with it. As divers we can follow it and be DIR or take bits and pieces of it and call it whatever they want. So, who's going to step up to the plate and do what the WKPP guys have done and promote their own system? I see that there are lots of ideas out there, some perhaps good, most totally flawed so there should be plenty of takers. Right?
