Hugo, your personal experience notwithstanding, the
reason why the comparison between deep air diving and
drunk driving is absolutely appropriate isn't about
who gets hurt, it's about how people, while drunk,
BELIEVE they are safe to drive, just like people, while
narcosed, BELIEVE they are safe to dive.

On the other hand, sober people know that people who drive
drunk are fucking idiots - same as people who dive deep
on air.

That is why your idea of helping people dive 'a little
bit' deep on air is morally bankrupt - because it is the
direct equivalent of helping someone drive a 'little bit'
drunk.

If you understand DIR and agree with its precepts, you
have a responsibility to TEACH DIR. As an equipment
configuration, a diving style AND as a mind-set.

Maybe it's time to stand up and call a stroke a stroke
and a dickhead a dickhead, instead of feeding their
egos.

By the way, the way to keep the cost of helium down,
apart from rebreathers, is to dive with a stage of mix.
Breathe the stage, keep the mix in the back tanks for
contingencies.

There, that's cut the long-term cost about in half.

Another thing. You don't need a drysuit to DIR. I
believe wetsuit, manifolded alloy eighties, backplate
and wing are fine.

There goes another stumbling block.
