Subject: Faber steel doubles
I know the DIR recomendation is to use double alloy 80's.

A couple of years ago I bought a new set of doubles after a fair bit of
research and came up with Faber 100cu ft steels. I thought I might share
the stats with you, because I think these are a worthwhile alternative
to Alloy 80's. But then I may be mistaken. I'm sure I'll find out.

Volume: 100cuft
W/C: 12.2l
Pressure:	235bar
Tare weight: 13.2kg
Boyancy empty:	0kg
Boyancy full:	-2.5kg or so (how much does air weigh - 900g/kl ?)
Height: 650mm base to neck (with a rubber boot - they have a round end)
Diameter:	180mm

With these you need a lighter weightbelt than alloys by about 3-4kg, but
most people still need a 3-4kg belt.
They don't float up when they get empty, they don't feel heavy under
water. With a little air in your BC you can take your doubles off under
water and they are close to neutral.

I also find them physically smaller than alloy 80's and when you add
their weight plus the lead on your waist you are carrying around a fair
bit less - which is handy getting back into a boat on a 2m swell.

The extra 20cu ft each is worthwhile for deep dives.

Regards

Guy
