There have been several reports on the net on tank explosions involving
older( pre 1990) aluminum tanks. Since even the readers of this list
probably still have to use some of these 80's for something, I am wondering
if there is any real cause for alarm. Is there any good reason for retiring
older cylinders(scrap value .30 per pound) or were these explosions caused
by overfilling or other abuse?
One local shop is now requiring a "current eddy" test annually before
filling any aluminum tank. Is this the norm in other parts of the country?
This may or may not be "tech" but there is no mid level diving discussion
area between here and that godawful rec. diver thing.
(that I know of......)
