It's mainly due to the fact that the East Coast wrecks are generally miles
offshore, while our northwest wrecks are sometimes within swimming distance of
shore.  Doing a freefloating deco in rough seas while the boat remains anchored
on the wreck will likely result in a lost diver.   By staying tied to the wreck
the captain always knows where to find ya.  But local conditions will always
dictate the method used.  On some of our wrecks, the building current after
slack would pull an upline bag under water, making a free-floating deco the
only option.
