>MOst dive boats in the UK, Private or otherwise carry a O2 kit for emergency >purposes. Yes, however, I bet that the O2 kit is not usable underwater!!! These kits (that I've seen - as we were taught to use in our EMT course) come with masks that fit over the nose and mouth and are either constant flow (with or without reservoir and in several different flavors) or demand valve (still fitting over the mouth and nose). Given their construction, I doubt that they would work very well underwater - (or am I all wet here ??? :^) Now, if the O2 carried on the dive boat is an O2 tank with a SCUBA regulator, that's a different story (at least about the *viability* of using it underwater), but I bet that's not what these boats have. >In the event of a missed stop or a suspected deco incident, we would put >said person on O2 on the boat. >However would we be better giving the person the O2 kit and accompanying them >to 6m and telling them breath it there, Knowing that the treatment may be >1.6 times better but only 1/1.6 times as long, if you follow my logic >( probably flawed). I doubt that the person in charge of the (commercial dive) operation would want to send a potentially injured person back in the water. Of course, for the very high tech/supported diver this may be a different story, but I don't think that's what Tom was talking about. Changing the topic (very) slightly, I remember a conversation on this group from several months ago that said that some new evidence would be brought forth (perhaps early in '95) that showed that if DCI symptoms (perhaps only severe DCI ???) aren't treated very quickly (I believe the time period mentioned was ***7 minutes*** - yes seven) that permanent defects could occur. I have this mail saved at home and I guess I could always look it up on aquanaut, but to the person who posted it (I remember that it was someone here that is well respected) - what is happening with this information??? Is it still going to be reported or has it been refuted??? -Carl- *** I really enjoy reading techdiver :^) ***
