Uhh now I am quite surprised. I always though most US gas divers do the mixing by themself. I can understand that someone doesnt want to do the more dangerous Nitrox fills, but with Trimix... Around here it's quite popular to dive easy to mix HeliAir's like 10/52. Even if you don't have a filling whip you can easily produce such mixes soley with a compressor, a precision gauge and of course an analyzer. One further advantage of such mixes is that you dont have to think about oxygen service of the tanks & regs. On the downside you only get mixes with have a lower ppO2 at MOD and that the mix is becoming hypoxic in the shallow regions. The consequence of the lower fO2 (typicaly less than 4%) is some extra deco time. We do many dives on 10/52 and a ppO2 of around 0.9 bar with EAN50 and O2 as deco gas. On average dives the additional deco time is insignificant (~10 min), if its more we also employ traditional trimix and/or EAN32 as third deco gas. Regards Frank P.S. Whats the helium price in the US? We pay ~ $150 for an 320cuft cylinder. -- Send mail for the `techdiver' mailing list to `techdiver@aquanaut.com'.
