Al, It's not so much us wanting a special take on something as much as it is the recreational community out here attempts to stiffle any technical diving growth. To this end any perception of a problem in the tech world is blown way out of proportion. Mis informtion runs rampant. For example, I did a 330' dive off an oil rig about 3 weeks ago. When the boat pulled back into the dock there were several people waiting for us to find out who got hurt. While we were on the dive someone spread the rumor that I had a problem at 330' and that they heard there was a fatality. The dive went off perfectly and no one on the boat had any problems but nonetheless the rumor mill had been started. So while in the example of the Douglas double fatality there was very clearly a problem, the finger pointing and the over blown tech diving propoganda was, and continues, to get spread. There are only a few really qualified tech guys out here and we are trying our hardest to expand the movement. Those of us who are active in that movement are not looking for cowboys who think tech diving means going to 140+' or strapping on a set of doubles. We are looking for divers that are serious about the sport and are willing to learn the skills necessary for survival. It gets harder and harder to recruit interested divers if the mis information continues to get spread. Anyway, welcome back and we will continue the debate.
