Trout, I want to personally thank you for taking the time to post examples of your deco procedures. Some of us do appreciate the insight it provides into some of the things you are doing. But some people aren't happy unless they are complaining (that's why there is a suggestion box in Heaven- reportedly). They complain if you don't tell them squat and then they complain that you told someone something! Go figure! I guess I need to improve my reading comprehension but I completely missed the part where you told everyone to do it "just like you do". I could have sworn that you STRONGLY cautioned everyone "We are professionals, Don't try this at home". Well I guess it's back to "Evelyn Woods Reading Course" for me!!!! And Capt. JT, Beg to differ with you but I don't every recall anyone on this list (or cavers for that matter) claiming that anyone was "training" anone on the net. My impression has always been that the list is an exchange of informantion, some good, some not so good, some even worse. By having access to the information the diver with some experience (and a brain) can decipher which is which. If the diver is a thinking individual and not just a "lemming" he/she will be able to incorporate many of the techinques (diving and rigging) into whatever type of diving they might do. If some of the distributors of this information seem rather blunt, I would contend that it is because they care about the well being of others and have come to realize that if you want to teach a mule something, first you have to get it's attention - like with a 2 by 4! Not that all divers have the mental capacity of a mule - but if the muleshoe fits, wear it! If someone doesn't understand something, like my comment about switching out 2nd stages by having them only finger tight (that's finger tight where the hose attaches to the second stage - the part that goes in your mouth) then that person should not try it but ask someone else like the diver in your example did. Bravo, he has a brain, he thinks, this is a good sign. Since I wrote the piece you refered to I know that the intent was not to teach, but rather to distribute information. I agree completely that you have to get wet to learn to dive and I think Jim Cobb posted the best explanation of how to acquire experience/wisdom in the sport that I have ever had the pleasure to read. (Jim, when your head gets down to normal size after that compliment, would you please re-post that). In a nutshell it said if you want to be a better diver go out and dive, dive, dive, dive in all sorts of situations, in murky water, cold water etc. That is how I learned to dive in 1962. And last year that's what I put my son through. And as a result of it he developed into a very competent diver who knows how and why, not just "because that's what they told me". At least that's my never to be humble opinion! Dave Dalton On Mon, 5 Apr 1999 20:02:49 -0500 "Jess Armantrout" <armantrout@wo*.at*.ne*> writes: >I agree 100 %.
