I had always heard that fat tissue was FAST to on-gas and SLOW to off-gas, making obesity a risk factor for DCS. Tissue compartments can be any combination: fast-fast, fast-slow, slow-slow, or slow-fast. In part, the deep stops slow the ascent, and allow for a gradual reduction in the pressure gradient.
