Rich asked about IWR Before I state BSAC's policy on IWR some background:- In the UK we have a very well organised Search and Rescue service provided by our Coastguard, RNLI, police etc. We have a number of accessible chambers around the coast. Therefore it`s a short trip to the pot. BSAC has 5 rules only and they're so important I can't remember what they are. Most significant diving activity is covered by recommendations or codes of conduct. Due to the proximity of rescue services, and the fact that chamber recompression is regarded as more controllable BSAC recommend that recompression is carried out in a pot and not in water. However I'm aware of the experience of Oz divers in IWR and it works for them. I think that if you're in the south China Sea and no chamber is around that the recommendation not to use IWR would probably not be adopted by the majority of members and IWR would be carried out. I am so sure of this that if anyone will fund it , my branch will test this theory (one years field test would be reasonable?). In an addendum to the original note - I'm not a BSAC apologist and I complain to HQ about problems that I can support with fact and logic. There has been some criticism from some people however which is a personality problem ( they don't do it my way , they don't worship at my altar therefore they are wrong!!). That is about as idiotic an attitude as 'PADI divers are better than NAUI". This is NOT a reference to Iain R and Chris H but I just wanted techdiver to be aware that some BSAC members are very hopeful that those already diving nitrox will be doing it under the BSAC umbrella by April 95 Brian ( get down off that soapbox and get back to work) All opinions are mine, normal restrictions apply
